Advanced Nursing Footcare

Program Outline

Designed for RN's and RPN's, this 5 day program provides basic through to advanced theoretical and practical instruction in non-invasive footcare. A holistic approach is taken in assessing the client and relating their general health to that of their feet. Students will practice on each other, so please DON'T CUT your toenails for one month prior to start of course!

Note: This is an intense program requiring successful completion of a theoretical and practical examination for certification.

Full attendance is mandatory.

Course fee includes course manual, instruments, lab costs.

Advanced Footcare Refresher

Program Outline

This program has been extended to provide an offsite clinical component. It is designed for those who have taken Advanced Footcare training but need a review of theory and practical skills. Please save your toenails, callouses etc.

Diabetes Footcare

Program Outline

A brief review of some general updates of diabetes and the impact of the disease on the feet will be covered. Ulcer prevention is emphasized in assessment and footcare management.

Corns, Callouses and Warts

Program Outline

A review of the etiology of each will be discussed. Nursing interventions and client education will be emphasized. There will be a hands-on opportunity to review the use of the credo and scalpel so please save those corns and callouses!

Nail Pathologies

Program Outline

A review of various nail pathologies with an emphasis on the ingrown nail will be discussed. We will complete the day with a clinical component and review of various nippers, scissors and the dremel. Please grow your toenails for this class!

Padding and Strapping

Program Outline

Tracy Oliver, MA, BSc, DPodM, Cert Ad Ed offers this program to you. Includes principles of tissue stress, associated foot lesions and pathologies, an introduction to various clinical padding materials to alleviate tissue stress on identified foot lesions and contraindications. A practical demonstration of easy, safe and effective clinical padding will be given. Then your turn to practice!

General Footcare for PSW's

Program Outline

Designed for non-nursing personnel incorporating footcare into personal hygiene management. Prevention is the goal! Emphasis will be placed on observing the feet and knowing who and when to refer the client for additional care. Theoretical and supervised practical instruction is given with a focus on healthy feet. Clinical practice will be on each other so please do not cut your toenails for 4-6 weeks prior to the class.

Course fee includes course manual and instruments.

Note: This program does not provide the theoretical or practical skill background to qualify for independent practice. The scope of practice of the participant following this program is contingent on the policies set out by their employer.

16th Annual Footcare Conference

Program Outline

This Conference offers the opportunity for Footcare nurses to participate in interactive learning from experts in a variety of topics related to Footcare.
